Or you could just play follow the leader. That is, follow what the leading tech companies are doing…
After all, the amount of cash that Big Tech companies have to invest in the next tech trend, plus the incredible amount of smart people they employ to put that cash to work is a pretty compelling formula.
Like, anybody who paid attention to Nvidia’s moves to build chips for AI a few years ago had a perfect roadmap for the AI bull market. Just 4 years ago, in 2021, Nvidia’s annual revenue was about $16 billion. For full year 2025, Nvidia is expected to log $130 billion in revenue…
Yes, Nvidia was perfectly positioned for the AI explosion. And if you think about it, Nvidia helped found the AI revolution by building chips that were perfectly engineered to turn the AI promise into reality.
So what’s Nvidia working on now? What’s the next tech revolution the most valuable company in the world planning to dominate?
Well, the fact is, it does have a new “secret” division that is seeing revenue rise over 100% this year, to $1.6 billion. Yes, that’s obviously a drop in the bucket for Nvidia, but at the same time, the days where its AI chip revenue could grow 100% a year are long gone…
This new “secret” division is where the growth is. Because on top of 100% growth this year, this “secret” division is expected to grow revenue by over 200% in 2026. That’s right: Nvidia’s “secret” source of revenue is expected to jump from $1.6 billion this year to over $5 billion next year!
Seems like Nvidia might be onto something…
Now the fact is: this “secret” division isn’t secret. Nvidia talks about it openly. It’s called “Drive” and it makes for autonomous vehicles (AV), better known as robo-taxis. And the truth is: Nvidia does more than just make chips – they make the whole processor ecosystem that allows AI applications to make robo-taxis work.
Tesla trains its robo-taxi AI on Nvidia chips. And Google’s Waymo actually installs Nvidia chip systems inside their robo-taxis – which is a big reason why Waymo’s have compiled a safety record that puts us human drivers to shame.
You can add Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Rivian, to the list of car companies using Nvidia Drive chips and systems for their AV aspirations. And you can add Chinese companies like Pony AI, Li Auto, Xiaomi and the world’s biggest EV maker BYD to the list, too.
Yes, Nvidia is pointing the way forward once again, pioneering a market that consultant firm McKinsey & Co say could be worth $400 billion over the next 5 years.
